101 Prints Gala and Draw - Malaspina Printmakers Society

This fall I have began to etch the ol copper plates again and also started volunteering at The Malaspina Printmaker's Gallery on Granville Island. I have volunteered three times now and I have already met some really interesting printmakers, artists, emily carr students and art collectors that pass through the gallery space. The printmaking studio is amazing as well with multiple presses and facilities for litho and intaglio, a chemical room, and silkscreening supplies this studio space is a fully functioning professional operation! I am really excited to get to printing again. Malaspina is a non-profit artist run society that operates with help from many volunteers that are passionate about printmaking. See their website for more information if you are interested. www.malaspinaprintmakers.com

On Friday, November 30th, 2012 there will also be a fundraiser for the Malaspina Printmakers and a great opportunity to expand your print collection as 101 prints will be offered that have been donated for the show, hence the 101 Prints Gala and Draw happening at The Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown. Tickets are $300.00 and this includes a print and a guest. What a great idea! You can preview the donated prints and more info for this event on their website as well:

I have donated the print Sea Sick print number 3/10 for this show. I do not have many left so get it while you still can. The paper size is 22.5 x 15" or 57.5 cm x 38.5 cm and the image size is 18 x 11" or 46 cm x 28.5 cm. The process for this print includes mezzotint, spit bite, engraving, chin collĂ©, and aquatint. It is printed on acid free somerset cotton rag paper colour 'news'.  I made it in 2009 on the NSCAD University presses in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I then hauled it back on the airplane with me in an oversized portfolio case. It is the most technical print edition I have completed to date.
