We took a visit up to Queen Elizabeth Park to visit with Nature. We saw frogs and lily pads, played games under the big trees and dodged large spiders. This is a view of the pond.
We collected Nature objects and found a large stick to make our mobiles with in a different workshop that I led later in the week with the kids. We added fibres, yarn, feathers and beads to create magical spaces with the things we found in nature. This ended up being a week long project for those wanting more details and beading on their sticks. We hung them on display the last day.
There was lots of interesting things to see and learn about Photography and Video making at our field trip to Art Starts gallery downtown Vancouver. We were shown where photography came from and how a pin hole of light started the development of cameras to the technology we have now a days with video and sound and light.
We also used fibres and objects when we went on a field trip to Art Starts and made Sun Prints with special solar paper. The children displayed them altogether on the last day of camp.
We had two different dance artists Cristina Bucci and Mark Siller from the Ouro Dance Collective come in and show us how to get down and do some "hip-hop, waacking, breaking, popping and contemporary dance" The kids really liked this and the artists were awesomely energized.
Dianna David brought her talents of dancing and entertaining to the children. They worked in groups and learned how to use props like her trademark Red Ball to dance with. This took more focus but we broke into groups and the kids made up their own dance names such as "the chicken sandwich" and "bacon and eggs" (maybe it was nearing lunch time...haha)
Ron Stelting came by with 20 djembes for us to learn "side of fries and a chocolate shake" and played some fun drumming games with us. We learned how to hold a djembe and make a beat.
The children made collages with the artist Jessie McNeill by cutting out magazines and using small bits to create a larger image. They were very focused and came up with some wonderful details.
In their free time the children made this banner on Imagination and some fluorescent chain links to decorate for the Art Exhibit held in the Exhibition Hall. Here they are installing their artworks.
AND THAT'S A WRAP for 2016 Creative Remix at Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.
